What is furniture manufacturing?
Furniture manufacturing is the process used to make furniture from the designing, cutting fabrication and assembling using material such as wood.
Bespoke wood furniture
Bespoke wood furniture is increasing in popularity throughout the UK as people look for unique high-quality furniture which is durable and can stand the test of time. Whilst standard ranges offer good value quality furniture options, they don’t always provide you with individual piece or fit to your room specifications.
Our workshop
Our story started in 1950 when Ronald Priest established Priest Furniture and the family has continued to run business in Chelmsford. We offer a wide portfolio of oak and painted home furniture ranges plus a made to measure furniture service manufactured in own dedicated onsite workshop. Our workshop alongside our main office is based on Dukes Park industrial estate in Chelmsford. Our workshop team comprises of 8 skilled workers who all bring together incredible talent and craftmanship. Ensuring we provide all our clients with high quality bespoke furniture and excellent customer service. From bench joiners and computer numeric controlled machine (CNC) operators to the furniture painters and fitters. All doing their specific jobs which bring together your final unique piece of furniture. Our craftsmen use a variety of traditional cabinet making techniques along with modern techniques to produce state-of-the-art piece of furniture.
The process
The process starts with a discussion between our designers and the client. The results of your discussions are a detailed CAD drawing which we will ask you to approve. At this point it is decided what timber or material your furniture should be made of. Then our CNC machinist confirms the precise measurements right down to the exact millimetre. If it is an awkward piece or to be fitted in a room where floors or walls are not level, templating is often needed to accommodate for this. Once the components are cut and machined our cabinet maker assembles the item of furniture. This involves adding all the hardware like drawer runners and hinges. After this, the furniture is dismantled for our sprayer to coat the furniture. If the piece of furniture is oak, then it is often stained or finished with a natural lacquer finish. If you’re looking for painted timber furniture, we can match your colour to our colour chart or any of the large brands; such as Farrow and Ball or Little Greene paint company, using our colour match service. Every customer is welcome to look around the workshop where the true beauty of craftmanship can be truly appreciated.
Sustainability
We are strongly committed to sustainability and caring for the natural environment. So, all the wood used in our workshop is sourced from a local timber merchant. Brookes Bros Timber supplies Maldon, who are Forestry Commission approved and support sustainable forest management.
Installation team
Once the piece has been manufactured our craftsmen pass the furniture to our experienced installation team. Your furniture is delivered to your home and our team fitters will construct the furniture in situ and make any necessary final changes.
